Bryan cut two peaches that were the same size for lunch. he cut one peach into fourths and the other into sixths. bryan ate 3/4 of the first peach. His brother ate 5/6 of the second peach. who ate more peach? explain your strategy you send used to solve the problem

Answer :

The first and second sentence is basically nonsense. Now you only need to do is cross-multiply or the butterfly method.
3         5
-----=-------
4          6
Do 3 times 6 which is 18
do 5 times 4 which is 20
So 5/6 is greater than 3/4 because 20 is on top of 5/6 and 3/4 is on top of 3/4

Well, first you would need to get a common denominator.

3/4 and 5/6

Try to find the multiples of 4 and 6 and then find one number that both of them have.

After doing that, you will discover that 12 is your common denominator.

To substitute 12 into 3/4 you will have to find out 4 times what equals 12

Simply divided 12 over 4 which equals 3 (12/4=3)

Remember everything you do to the denominator you have to do to the numerator.

So 3 multiplied by 3 equals 9 (3*3=9)

Your new faction is 9/12

3/4 = 9/12

To find his brother's amount you do the same steps

5/6 =  ?/12

6*2=12

5*2=10

New fraction 10/12

5/6 = 10/12

Bryan ate 9/12 of the peach and his brother ate 10/12 of the peach

His brother ate more.
