I need help creating an attention grabber for my essay on mood in some of Edgar Allan Poe's works. Here is my introduction:
Edgar Allan Poe is renowned for his terrifying poems and stories, and it’s no wonder why. His ability to create a chilling and suspenseful mood was amazing. He used a variety of literary tools to make his hair-raising masterpieces, but the symbolism was key to creating his signature mood. The two works “The Raven” and The Masque of the Red Death are prime examples of symbolism influencing the mood. “The Raven” is a story of a man who is grieving over the loss of his wife, while The Masque of the Red Death is about a prince and 1000 guests who abandoned their country due to a plague and decide to have a never ending party locked away in the prince’s castle. These literary works will demonstrate that Poe used symbolism to create a suspenseful and blood-curdling mood, due to a symbol in each story.

I would say (as an edit) that "his ability to create a chilling and suspenseful mood was amazing" sounds a bit weird. How about changing it to "His ability to project a chilling and suspenseful mood is yet to be rivaled." I don't think a hook is really necessary, you get straight to the point, and I think the essay is going to be really interesting.
