Gene mutation can result in the resistance by the organism to insecticides and pesticides. This occurs when there is a mutation in the DNA of the organism. The DNA replicates and carries new information that modifies the insecticide once it enters the body. Hence the animal will not die by have a different metabolic pathway to destroy the pesticide once it is in the body.

One additional advantage is camouflage against predators. For example, in the Great Britain, a great number of species of butterflies mutated and matched the bark of the trees. The birds could not find them because of the ir new color. Hence the butterflies were safe from predators.
