She is indeed loving mother, but her nagging stems from her dreams and wishes for their children. She is forcing her ideas and her plans for the future on her children and that is why she is so nagging. She planned for Amanda to have many gentleman callers and to marry and for Tom to support them financially.

2. Here the correct answer is C.

Tom truly loves his sister and she is the only reason why he hasn't left home before. We can see from their interaction that he does care for her and that he wishes her to be happy. Though in the end he wishes his freedom and his happiness more. His only regret is leaving his sister.

This does illustrate Amanda's inability to deal with reality. She wants to believe there is nothing wrong with Laura even though she knows there is. This is just one of the examples of her running away from her life. She also clearly and mostly lives in the past.
